• Review and prepare financial statements, footnotes, and MD&A disclosures for quarterly and annual reporting (Form 10-Q/10-K).
• Research ASUs and assess impact, developing policies and processes.

Job description

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting to join a growing energy and infrastructure organization with a sophisticated, highly complex accounting environment. This role will serve as a key technical accounting resource, partnering closely with Accounting, Finance, Legal, Development, and Operations teams on complex transactions, financial reporting, and accounting policy matters.

The ideal candidate will be a CPA with prior Big 4 experience and a strong background in technical accounting and financial reporting. This individual must be highly articulate and comfortable communicating complex accounting matters to senior leadership and executive stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Research complex technical accounting issues resulting from material business transactions and prepare detailed accounting memoranda documenting conclusions and supporting analysis.
• Advise General Ledger accounting teams on the accounting treatment of complex and non-routine transactions.
• Review and prepare financial statements, footnotes, and MD&A disclosures for quarterly and annual reporting, including Form 10-Q and Form 10-K requirements.
• Research newly issued Accounting Standards Updates (ASUs) and assess their impact on the organization, including developing and implementing appropriate accounting policies and processes.
• Maintain and proactively manage the organization’s technical accounting issues inventory, ensuring timely resolution and effective project management.
• Partner with Development, Operations, Legal, and Finance teams on accounting due diligence and transaction structuring, providing guidance on accounting implications and considerations.
• Assist with accounting analysis related to business combinations, leases, consolidations, segment reporting, transfers and servicing arrangements, and real estate transactions.
• Design, implement, and manage a contract review process in partnership with Legal and Finance.
• Perform and manage retrospective contract reviews as part of internal control remediation and process improvement initiatives.
• Support the execution of external audits, including audits associated with a public company environment.
• Serve as a technical accounting resource to cross-functional teams, translating complex accounting requirements into practical business guidance.
• Partner with senior leadership on accounting conclusions, financial reporting matters, and other complex accounting projects.

• ASC 842 – Lease Accounting
• ASC 810 – Consolidations
• ASC 805 – Business Combinations
• ASC 860 – Transfers and Servicing
• Financial statement presentation and disclosure
• Technical accounting research and memo writing
• Internal controls and remediation

Qualifications

• CPA required
• Prior Big 4 public accounting experience strongly preferred
• Demonstrated progression beyond public accounting; this role is not intended for candidates coming directly out of public accounting
• Strong technical accounting and financial reporting experience within a complex corporate environment
• Experience researching and documenting complex accounting conclusions through detailed technical accounting memos
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex accounting matters to senior leadership and Board-level stakeholders
• Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple technical accounting initiatives simultaneously
• Experience partnering cross-functionally with Legal, Finance, Operations, Development, and Accounting teams
