Overview

Director of Technical Accounting is a leadership role in a global, publicly traded energy company. This position leads the technical accounting function, serves as a key advisor on complex transactions, ensures compliance with US GAAP and SEC requirements, and helps shape accounting policies, implement new standards, and provide strategic financial insights to executive leadership.

Base pay range

$170,000.00/yr - $200,000.00/yr

What You’ll Do

• Lead the evaluation and documentation of complex transactions, including leases, financing arrangements, purchase and sales contracts, derivatives, capitalizations, impairments, and business combinations.
• Serve as the primary point of contact with external auditors on technical accounting matters, ensuring alignment and timely resolution of issues.
• Oversee the adoption and implementation of new accounting standards, providing technical guidance and training across the organization.
• Develop, update, and communicate accounting policies, ensuring consistency and compliance across domestic and international entities.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to assess accounting and financial reporting implications of strategic business decisions.
• Lead accounting efforts related to mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and impairments, including coordination with valuation specialists and internal stakeholders.
• Drive process improvements in technical accounting documentation, modeling of fair value measurements, and policy development.
• Mentor and develop a high-performing technical accounting team, building organizational expertise and capability.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting; CPA required.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant exposure to technical accounting, US GAAP, and SEC reporting.
• Background in public accounting (Big 4 or national firm) and/or relevant industry leadership experience. Will consider professionals coming directly from public accounting or advisory.
• Deep expertise in lease accounting, revenue recognition, debt accounting, fixed assets, and business combinations.
• Proven ability to research and communicate complex accounting issues in a clear and actionable manner.
• Track record of successfully leading technical accounting projects in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; Workiva experience a plus.
