Job summary

Welltower is seeking a Sr. Manager, Privacy and Compliance to lead the company’s privacy program and ensure regulatory adherence across healthcare real estate operations. You will partner with cross-functional teams to implement data-protection controls and privacy-by-design practices.

You will advise on HIPAA and privacy law, develop policies, and oversee training, risk assessments, and vendor agreements to strengthen the organization’s compliance posture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, law, finance; JD preferred.
  • 7+ years of compliance experience in healthcare real estate or related sector.
  • Extensive knowledge of HIPAA Privacy and Breach Notification Rules.
  • Working knowledge of UK GDPR and Canadian privacy laws.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive corporate compliance and privacy program.
  • Draft and update policies reflecting regulatory changes and industry best practices.
  • Advise stakeholders on privacy considerations for data initiatives and cross-functional projects.
  • Review data processing agreements and business associate/privacy provisions in contracts.
  • Deliver privacy training to employees, partners, and new hires as needed.
  • Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments as required.
  • Continuously assess and enhance the effectiveness of compliance programs.
  • Stay informed about emerging compliance trends and regulatory developments.
  • Research and analyze current laws impacting the company and guide cross-functional teams.
  • Establish relationships with senior management and business partners across the company.

Summary

The Sr. Manager, Privacy and Compliance for Welltower plays a pivotal role in ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and industry standards within the healthcare real estate sector. This position requires a deep understanding of data privacy regulations and best practices, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to promote a culture of compliance and integrity.


Key Responsibilities


  • Improve, implement, and maintain a comprehensive compliance program for the company and partner with key internal stakeholders to lead the compliance function, focusing on corporate compliance and data privacy and protection.

  • Develop, review, and update compliance policies and procedures to reflect changes in regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

  • Advise internal stakeholders on privacy and compliance considerations for data initiatives and partner cross-functionally to implement and support a privacy compliance framework.

  • Review and advise on data processing agreements and business associate agreements, as well as privacy provisions in corporate contracts.

  • Develop and ensure effective delivery of compliance and privacy training to new employees, employees, and business partners, as necessary.

  • Conduct and manage Privacy Impact Assessments as and when required.

  • Continuously assess and enhance the effectiveness of compliance programs and processes.

  • Stay informed about emerging compliance trends, regulatory developments, and industry best practices to drive continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Research and analyze current and proposed laws and regulations that may impact the company and provide practical solutions and actionable guidance to cross-functional teams.

  • Establish effective relationships with senior management and business partners throughout the company.

Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, law, finance, or a related field. Advanced degree (e.g., JD, MBA) preferred.

  • J.D. is preferred and will be prioritized

  • Certified Compliance Professional (CCP), Healthcare Compliance Certification (HCCP), or other relevant certifications preferred.

  • Extensive knowledge of the HIPAA Privacy and Breach Notification Rules.

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in compliance with a strong understanding of US regulatory requirements within the healthcare real estate sector and demonstrated knowledge of applicable compliance and data privacy regulations.

  • Working knowledge of the UK GDPR and Canadian privacy laws.

  • Proven ability to work with variety of stakeholders at all levels and effectively interact with cross-functional teams and projects to promote compliance and privacy initiatives.


Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check, drug screening, and verification of employment, education, and other credentials relevant to the position.


Compensation

Salaries may vary by location. The range for this role in New York City is $175,000 - $220,000 plus bonus. Final compensation determinations are made based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual experience, education, and skill level; business strategic priorities; primary office location; scope and anticipated strategic impact of the role.
