Job summary

Welltower is seeking a Senior Manager, Compliance to lead enterprise-wide privacy and regulatory programs in the healthcare real estate sector. You will drive policy development, risk assessment, training, and cross-functional collaboration to embed a culture of compliance.

The role requires deep HIPAA knowledge, 7+ years of compliance experience in healthcare real estate, and the ability to partner with internal teams and external partners. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
• CCP, HCCP or related certifications preferred.
• 7+ years in compliance with US healthcare real estate focus.
• Extensive knowledge of HIPAA Privacy and Breach Notification Rules.
• Working knowledge of UK GDPR and Canadian privacy laws.

Responsibilities

• Lead and maintain a comprehensive compliance program across the company and partners.
• Develop, review, and update compliance policies reflecting regulatory changes.
• Advise on privacy and compliance for data initiatives and cross-functional partnerships.
• Review data processing agreements and privacy provisions in contracts.
• Deliver privacy/compliance training to employees and partners as needed.
• Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments when required.
• Assess and enhance effectiveness of compliance programs and processes.
• Stay informed on emerging compliance trends and regulatory developments.
• Provide practical guidance to cross-functional teams.

Job description

The Sr. Manager, Compliance for Welltower plays a pivotal role in ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and industry standards within the healthcare real estate sector. This position requires a deep understanding of data privacy regulations and best practices, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to promote a culture of compliance and integrity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Improve, implement, and maintain a comprehensive compliance program for the company and partner with key internal stakeholders to lead the compliance function, focusing on corporate compliance and data privacy and protection.
• Develop, review, and update compliance policies and procedures to reflect changes in regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
• Advise internal stakeholders on privacy and compliance considerations for data initiatives and partner cross-functionally to implement and support a privacy compliance framework.
• Review and advise on data processing agreements and business associate agreements, as well as privacy provisions in corporate contracts.
• Develop and ensure effective delivery of compliance and privacy training to new employees, employees, and business partners, as necessary.
• Conduct and manage Privacy Impact Assessments as and when required.
• Continuously assess and enhance the effectiveness of compliance programs and processes.
• Stay informed about emerging compliance trends, regulatory developments, and industry best practices to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Research and analyze current and proposed laws and regulations that may impact the company and provide practical solutions and actionable guidance to cross-functional teams.
• Establish effective relationships with senior management and business partners throughout the company.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, law, finance, or a related field. Advanced degree (e.g., JD, MBA) preferred.
• Certified Compliance Professional (CCP), Healthcare Compliance Certification (HCCP), or other relevant certifications preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of the HIPAA Privacy and Breach Notification Rules.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in compliance with a strong understanding of US regulatory requirements within the healthcare real estate sector and demonstrated knowledge of applicable compliance and data privacy regulations.
• Working knowledge of the UK GDPR and Canadian privacy laws.
• Proven ability to work with variety of stakeholders at all levels and effectively interact with cross-functional teams and projects to promote compliance and privacy initiatives.
• Applicants must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
