Job summary

The Center for AI Safety (CAIS) is seeking a Senior Manager of People & Operations in San Francisco to own People Operations end-to-end and oversee the Office Manager. You’ll lead cross-functional operations projects, manage vendors, and support recruiting, onboarding, and compliance.

This hands-on, senior role requires 7+ years across core operations, HR, and back-office functions, with strong communication and discretion. Local candidates only; in-office 5 days/week.

Qualifications

• 5+ years owning HR end-to-end and hands-on with at least two other operations functions.
• Experience managing people and vendors.
• Track record of building or improving processes, not just maintaining.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfort working with senior leaders as a force multiplier.

Responsibilities

• Own People Operations end-to-end and manage cross-functional projects.
• Oversee the Office Manager and coordinate day-to-day operations.
• Lead vendor coordination including IT and legal matters.
• Recruiting, onboarding, and employee relations responsibilities.
• Ensure California and federal employment compliance with counsel.
