The Opportunity
I. Leadership and Management:
- Lead and manage a team of bioinformaticians, providing mentorship and guidance.
- Work with senior leadership to establish goals and objectives, including defining work products and timelines.
- Participate in developing strategy and setting overall direction.
- Develop and implement strategic plans for the bioinformatics team.
- Ensure timely delivery of analyses and reports.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment.
- Attract, retain, and develop high-quality staff.

- Address training and professional development needs of staff.
II. Project Management:
- Oversee bioinformatics aspects of NGS projects from start to finish.
- Coordinate with project managers, scientists, and stakeholders.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and budget.
III. Bioinformatics Analysis:
- Develop and implement pipelines, workflows, and tools for NGS data analysis.
- Perform data quality control, alignment, variant calling, and annotation.
- Interpret and present results to scientific and non-scientific audiences.
- Design and apply novel computational methods and algorithms.
- Analyze large molecular datasets, troubleshoot, and recommend solutions.
- Develop and validate new data analysis software tools.
IV. Research and Development:
- Stay current with advancements in NGS technologies and bioinformatics methods.
- Identify and integrate new tools and technologies.
- Lead research initiatives for novel bioinformatics approaches.
V. Collaboration and Communication:
- Work with multidisciplinary teams including scientists, clinicians, and healthcare professionals.
- Communicate complex concepts and results effectively.
- Prepare and present technical reports.
VI. Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure analyses and reporting comply with standards (e.g., CLIA, CAP, FDA).
- Develop and maintain documentation and SOPs.
- Participate in audits and inspections.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, or related field.
- Minimum of 8 years experience in bioinformatics, focusing on NGS.
- Proven leadership in managing bioinformatics teams.
- Expertise in NGS data analysis and sequencing technologies.
- Proficiency in Python, R, Perl.
- Experience with tools/databases like GATK, SAMtools, BWA, Ensembl, COSMIC.
- Knowledge of clinical genomics regulations (CLIA, CAP, FDA).
- Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and communication skills.
Skills, Abilities, and Competencies
- Experience in oncology or precision medicine.
- Familiarity with EHR systems and clinical data integration.
- Knowledge of cloud computing and high-performance environments.
- Scripting skills in Python or Perl.
- Experience developing software in CLIA environments (preferred).
- Proficiency in SQL, NoSQL, data engineering, and workflow platforms.
- Ability to manage large, heterogeneous datasets.
- Strong skills in Linux and high-performance computing clusters.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize, and adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to collaborate in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
- Rapid learner and implementer of new technologies.
- Attention to detail and a track record of developing high-quality computational tools.
