Job summary

Shiseido Americas is seeking a Senior Manager, Manufacturing, to lead day-to-day production operations at our New Jersey facility. You will supervise teams, drive schedule adherence, and ensure compliance with safety standards and GMP across multiple brands.

You will collaborate with cross-functional partners to optimize resources, scale up/down batches, and implement process improvements to meet business demand while upholding quality commitments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in physical science, engineering, or related field.
  • At least 5 years supervising or managing batch manufacturing operations in cosmetics/pharma/chemical industries.
  • Working knowledge of cosmetic formulations and manufacturing equipment operation.
  • Trained in cGMP.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving and leadership skills.
  • Experience leading and developing others; proficient with Microsoft Office; root cause analysis proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day manufacturing operations and provide leadership to supervisors and direct labor.
  • Ensure adherence to safety requirements and manufacturing procedures; coordinate with cross-functional teams.
  • Partner with Bulk Planner to prepare manufacturing schedules and manage batch timelines.
  • Schedule trial and launch batches to meet project timelines.
  • Optimize resource use and execute the manufacturing schedule efficiently.
  • Investigate batch upsets and prepare formal reports; implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain regular maintenance discussions and preventive maintenance plans with maintenance teams.
  • Ensure incidents and near-misses are reported and addressed.
  • Monitor schedule adherence and communicate delays affecting run completion.

Job Summary

The Senior Manager, Manufacturing, is responsible for overseeing day-to-day manufacturing operations, including providing leadership to supervisors and direct labor employees and maintaining short- and long-term batch schedules. This role ensures effective execution of the manufacturing schedule, adherence to established procedures, compliance with safety requirements, and timely communication and coordination with cross-functional departments.

What You Will Do
  • You will ensure employees are properly trained in safety and quality requirements
  • You will ensure compliance with Company safety policies and procedures, as well as applicable Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements.
  • You will work in partnership with the Bulk Planner to prepare the manufacturing schedule.
  • You will ensure trial and launch batches are appropriately scheduled to meet project timelines.
  • You will execute the manufacturing schedule while ensuring the most efficient use of resources.
  • You will investigate batch upsets or nonconformances and prepare a formal report.
  • You will implement corrective and preventive actions to minimize defects, product contamination, and material or component mix-ups.
  • You will establish a regular meeting cadence with maintenance to discuss preventive maintenance schedules, equipment breakdowns, and corrective actions to improve equipment uptime.
  • You will ensure all incidents, near misses, and safety concerns are reported immediately and addressed appropriately.
  • You will monitor adherence to the manufacturing schedule and communicate delays that may extend a run beyond the scheduled completion date.
  • You will identify process improvement opportunities and implement prioritized improvements based on business needs.
  • You will administer employee corrective actions when appropriate and in accordance with Company policies.
  • You will oversee the scale up and scale down of batches to meet business demand.
  • You will contribute to capital investment decisions and support factory acceptance testing (FAT) of equipment.
  • You will lead the partnership with NPC to ensure launches are completed on time, in full, and in accordance with quality requirements.
  • You will partner with AIC to obtain technical support for new products and technologies.
Who You Are
  • You have a four-year degree in physical science, engineering, or a related field
  • You have at least five years of experience supervising or managing batch manufacturing operations within the cosmetics, pharmaceutical, chemical, or a related industry.
  • You have a working knowledge of cosmetic formulations and manufacturing equipment operation.
  • You are trained and experienced in current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
  • You possess excellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • You demonstrate the ability and commitment to effectively lead and develop others.
  • You are familiar with Microsoft Office applications.
  • You can apply root cause analysis techniques to identify and resolve problems.
