Job summary

ATCC in Gaithersburg, MD is hiring a Senior Manager, Genome Portal Engineering to lead modernization and long‑term evolution of the Genome Portal and related digital biology platforms.

You will provide technical leadership for a cloud‑based platform delivering genomic data products to scientific users and collaborate with scientists, bioinformatics, product stakeholders, IT, and external partners to ensure secure, scalable applications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of experience and leadership exposure.
• Proven leadership of professional engineering teams with execution and performance management.
• Experience designing, developing, and supporting scalable, secure software platforms, web apps, or SaaS products including APIs and data integration layers.
• Proven ability to direct engineering execution: sprint planning, technical direction, code reviews, release readiness, and standards.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders while integrating platforms with enterprise systems and external data sources.
• Preferred: experience with genomic data platforms, bioinformatics, sequencing, or life sciences environments.
• Preferred: experience building applications for scientists with data exploration, visualization, and user-centered workflows.
• Preferred: experience with frontend development, reusable UI components, cloud-based platforms, and data-intensive apps.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and delivery of the Genome Portal and related platforms, ensuring usability, scalability, and long-term sustainability.
• Oversee day-to-day engineering activities: sprint planning, direction, code reviews, releases, and engineering best practices.
• Guide architecture decisions and manage backend services, APIs, and data integration layers.
• Drive development of intuitive, user-centered applications and reusable UI components for scientists and technical users.
• Coordinate external development partners and align with product management, IT, and cybersecurity.
• Ensure platform performance, security, maintainability, and resilience while mitigating infrastructure and cost risks.
