Job Summary
Senior Manager of Generation Operations – a senior leadership role responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of generation assets. This onsite position at our Ottumwa Generation Station requires a proven power plant leader who excels at leading union and non‑union teams, optimizing plant performance, and shaping long‑term strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team that operates and maintains generation facilities to meet safety, environmental, and operational performance objectives.
- Direct strategic activities and resource allocation, including people, tools, equipment, and processes, to ensure optimal facility performance.
- Maintain operational relationships with internal support teams, customer groups, regulatory agencies, union leadership, and community contacts.
- Lead initiatives in safety and environmental performance, financial planning, resource deployment, operations and maintenance, regulator compliance, contractor agreements, risk management, and outage and maintenance program execution.
- Oversee employee and labor relations strategies for generation facilities, including workforce planning, hiring, performance management, and succession planning.
- Develop and implement strategic improvement plans for all business processes within assigned facilities, using plant performance metrics to drive continuous improvement.
- Provide financial evaluation of existing and future assets, manage O&M and capital spend strategies, and ensure maximum asset utilization.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory rules from agencies such as DOT, OSHA, and DNR, and manage environmental issues to prevent violations.

- Oversee operations and maintenance of generation assets, including reliability gap identification, long‑range planning, project oversight, and construction work.
- Utilize plant performance metrics to meet and exceed process standards.
- Lead safety, investigate accidents, enforce safety rules, and promote safe work behaviors.
- Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
- Serve as primary contact for environmental staff regarding facility‑related environmental issues.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, or a related area.
Experience Requirements
- 7 years of experience in generation or related work.
- 5 years of supervisory experience, including leadership of generation, engineering, construction, project management, or field operations.
Other Requirements
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated effective leadership skills.
- Solid working knowledge of electric, gas, or steam operating practices, construction standards, equipment, maintenance practices, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with labor union management (preferred).
- Knowledge of safety rules, applicable electric codes, and DOT/PHMSA regulations.
- Ability to read and understand utility maps, plans, profiles, and drawings.
- Financial skills such as budgeting and basic accounting.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with information technology applications and common software (email, word processing, spreadsheets, project management).
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive environment.

Benefits and Compensation
Alliant Energy offers a comprehensive total rewards package including competitive compensation and benefit programs. Pay Range: $175,000–$205,000. This position is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program.
