Job description

The Senior Manager of Finance acts as the organization's lead operational resource for grant financial management, budgeting, forecasting, financial compliance, and fiscal stewardship. This role blends advanced grants management with hands‑on financial oversight to ensure that institutional funding is properly administered, monitored, and reported across the full grant lifecycle. The Senior Manager partners closely with organizational leadership, program teams, the finance team of an affiliated fiscal sponsor, donors, and external partners to manage proposal budgets, grant implementation, cash flow, financial reporting, and grant closeout. The role delivers day-to-day financial guidance, flags and resolves financial and compliance risks, and supports sound decision‑making by translating complex financial data into clear, actionable recommendations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Planning and Analysis
  • Lead development of the organization's annual operating budget and project- or funder-specific budgets, working with leadership, budget holders, and the affiliated finance team.
  • Prepare rolling forecasts, cash-flow and cash-on-hand projections, scenario analyses, and financial models to guide resource allocation and organizational decisions.
  • Analyze revenue, expenditures, commitments, and budget-to-actual variances; flag emerging financial risks and recommend corrective action.
  • Build financial analyses and proposal budgets for new funding opportunities, renewals, and shifting organizational priorities.
Budget Management
  • Monitor organizational and grant spending to ensure alignment with approved budgets, donor restrictions, funding periods, and operational priorities.
  • Oversee restricted and unrestricted funds, funding allocations, anticipated revenue, and financial commitments across the organization's portfolio.
  • Work with budget holders and regional teams to review spending, resolve variances, improve forecast accuracy, and strengthen financial accountability.
  • Serve as the primary operational liaison with the affiliated finance team to reconcile data, resolve discrepancies, and respond to financial requests.
  • Prepare timely, accurate financial reports, dashboards, forecasts, and briefing materials for leadership, donors, budget holders, and other stakeholders.
  • Lead financial closeout of two major foundation-funded grants, including expenditure reconciliation, final reporting, documentation, and resolution of outstanding balances or commitments.
  • Support annual and grant-specific audits by preparing financial schedules, maintaining audit-ready records, responding to requests, and tracking corrective actions.
  • Assess and strengthen financial controls, documentation standards, approval processes, and financial-management procedures alongside relevant partner teams.
Grants
  • Manage the full grant lifecycle: due diligence, award setup, agreements, implementation monitoring, donor reporting, amendments, renewals, and closeout.
  • Draft and administer grant agreements, subawards, contracts, and amendments in consultation with Finance, Compliance, and Legal.
  • Monitor donor requirements, grant deliverables, reporting deadlines, payments, and subrecipient performance; identify and help resolve compliance concerns.
  • Maintain accurate grant records and act as a key operational point of contact for donors, program teams, and regional hubs on grant administration and compliance matters.
