Job summary

The Senior Manager, Commissioning will lead MTA Construction and Development’s efforts to implement and oversee commissioning for a major component of the MTA Capital Program within the Delivery Department.

This role requires hands-on site involvement, escalation and coordination across vertical transportation, HVAC, and fire protection, with responsibilities including meetings, staff development, and ensuring commissioning requirements are met from design through construction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years combined experience in installation, testing, and acceptance of vertical transportation, HVAC, and fire protection.
  • Qualified Elevator Inspector’s Certificate and/or NYS Professional Engineer’s Licence.
  • Familiarity with ASME A17 series, NYS Codes, NFPA, and NEC.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong focus on results, organizational effectiveness, and continuous improvement.
  • Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office; strong documentation and time-management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Escalate issues and make quick decisions to ensure quality in systems commissioning and testing.
  • Oversee and develop managers and staff; manage a smaller commissioning team.
  • Guide evaluation of vertical transportation, HVAC, and fire protection within the Stations unit.
  • Apply commissioning processes and verify project performance requirements through design and construction.
  • Advise Leadership on escalated items from design/construction parties.
  • Oversee handover to End-User Department and required training; participate in kickoff and progress meetings.
  • Visit construction sites to troubleshoot commissioning issues and perform random checks.

Telework

Job S ummary

The Senior Manager, Commissioning will lead MTA Construction and Development’s efforts to implement and oversee commissioning for a major component of the MTA Capital Program within the Delivery Department.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for escalating issues, making quick decisions, enabling an efficient and qualitative product pertaining to systems commissioning and testing.
  • Oversees and develops managers and staff.
  • Oversees a smaller commissioning team.
  • Oversees and provides direction within the evaluation of Vertical transportation, HVAC, and fire protection in the Stations Business Unit.
  • Oversees the application of the commissioning process and the project performance requirements, as identified during the early stages of a project's lifecycle, along with the verification/documentation of those requirements through final design and construction.
  • Assists and advises Leadership in resolving escalated items from design/construction parties related to vertical transportation, HVAC, and fire protection.
  • Oversees and advises on the handover of asset(s) to the MTA End-User Department and required training .
  • Attends construction kick-off meetings and construction progress meetings.
  • Prepare and conduct commissioning meetings to project management staff at the beginning of the construction phase.
  • Must go to a project’s construction site to solve commissioning issues and conduct random site checks to identify any commissioning issues that would delay the project’s progress.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering , Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Must have a minimum of seven (7) years combined related experience in the installation, troubleshooting, testing, inspection and acceptance of vertical transportation, HVAC, and fire protection.
  • Must have a Qualified Elevator Inspector’s Certificate and/ or a New York State Professional Engineer’s Licence .
  • Must be familiar with the ASME A17 series, New York State Codes, NFPA, and NEC.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have focus and the ability to deliver on results, organizational effectiveness, and continuous improvement.
  • Must possess excellent team-building , listening, problem-solving , and prioritization skills.

Final salary is determined by experience, skill set , and alignment with compensation practices. The posted range reflects expected compensation and may be updated as market or business needs evolve.
