The Senior Manager, Automation Engineering is responsible for leading the execution of multiple complex automation, material handling, and industrial racking projects across an assigned region. The Senior Manager provides leadership and oversight across multiple concurrent projects, ensuring each is delivered safely, to scope, on schedule, within budget, and at the required operational performance.

The role will provide manage & coordinate multiple projects, manage key vendors and system integrators, and proactively identify and resolve risks that could impact execution. The Senior Manager serves as the primary regional escalation point, connecting site-level execution with portfolio leadership and cross-functional partners.The role will leverage AI, data, and digital tools to improve project visibility, identify emerging risks and trends, streamline project management activities, and enable faster, data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Execution: Lead execution across multiple concurrent automation, material handling, and industrial racking projects within an assigned region, ensuring alignment to safety, scope, schedule, budget, quality, and operational readiness commitments.
  • Project Leadership: Provide direction to ensure consistent execution standards, project controls, communication, and accountability across assigned projects.
  • Scope, Schedule & Budget: Maintain regional visibility and accountability for approved project scope, schedules, milestones, capital budgets, forecasts, and change control. Identify variances early and ensure appropriate recovery plans are established and executed.
  • Regional Resource Management: Balance implementation resources and priorities across multiple projects based on project phase, risk, schedule, and business needs. Identify resource constraints early and coordinate with leadership to resolve gaps.
  • Vendor Management: Manage performance of equipment suppliers, system integrators, rack installers, contractors, and other implementation partners across assigned projects. Identify recurring performance gaps and hold vendors accountable to contractual, schedule, quality, and performance commitments.
  • Risk Management: Maintain visibility to project risk registers across the region. Identify common and high‑impact risks, ensure appropriate mitigation plans are in place, and elevate risks requiring broader organizational support.
  • Open‑Issue Resolution: Drive resolution of critical issues, dependencies, and decisions that extend beyond an individual project's ability to resolve. Remove barriers and connect project teams with the appropriate technical, functional, or leadership resources.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Engineering, Construction, Operations, Reliability/Maintenance, Technology, Safety, Procurement, Finance, and external partners to coordinate regional execution and resolve cross‑functional dependencies.
  • Installation & Site Readiness: Ensure project teams have comprehensive readiness plans covering site access, equipment delivery and staging, installation sequencing, utilities, construction interfaces, technology dependencies, and operational requirements.
  • Commissioning & Go‑Live: Provide regional oversight of testing, commissioning, acceptance testing, punch‑list closure, performance validation, training, and operational readiness, ensuring projects meet defined acceptance criteria prior to handoff.
  • Change Management: Ensure proposed project and field changes are appropriately evaluated for scope, cost, schedule, technical, and operational impacts, with appropriate documentation and approvals prior to execution.
  • AI & Digital Tools: Leverage approved AI and digital project‑management tools across regional projects to improve schedule and cost analysis, risk identification, issue tracking, document review, reporting, and trend identification. Use AI‑generated insights to proactively identify constraints and accelerate informed decision‑making while maintaining accountability for project outcomes.
  • Project Governance: Lead consistent regional project reviews providing fact‑based visibility to scope, schedule, budget, risks, open issues, vendor performance, acceptance testing, and operational readiness. Escalate material concerns to the Director with clear recovery plans and recommended actions.
  • Operational Handoff: Ensure consistent transition of completed projects to Operations and Reliability, including documentation, training, spare parts, punch‑list closure, outstanding issues, asset information, and system ownership.
  • Continuous Improvement: Capture lessons learned across regional projects and share insights with Engineering and Implementation leadership to improve future designs, project standards, vendor expectations, commissioning practices, and implementation processes.
