Our newer Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) facility in Clayton, NC sits on 825,000 square-feet of state-of-the-art equipment, and houses the Fermentation, Recovery and Purification in the production of ingredients for Novo Nordisk’s innovative oral products. The Position

Responsible for the Automation departments, which are divided into two manager-led tracks: Automation Support & Operational Support. Provides leadership & guidance to staff. Responsible for overseeing subject matter experts that support applications and project execution while ensuring compliance & availability. Ensures service level agreements are in place & people are trained sufficiently to meet stakeholder expectations. Responsible for developing strategic goals & objectives in alignment with all relevant NN business plans. Drives improvement projects & system upgrades.

Essential Functions

  • Develop strategic direction for assets, monitor advancements in the industry, recommend & implement new technologies that help meet customer demands, as well as production goals and future capacity for the site
  • Collaborate with department leadership & provide oversight for development, coaching, performance management, recruitment & employee relations
  • Manage, lead & coach department leadership and subject matter experts (SME’s) to ensure a high-performing, collaborative team environment
  • Provide continuous feedback, structure, & accountability to improve performance
  • Drive cLEAN behavior & ensure systematic problem solving
  • Define, implement & process confirm dynamic Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) on system performance
  • Lead & motivate others to drive productivity improvement initiatives & projects
  • Responsible for ensuring that department personnel live the cLEAN culture
  • Establish & maintain the overall strategic perspective for the department
  • Overall oversight of the systems life cycle
  • Actively involve & manage stakeholders at all levels across the organization, as well as global organization
  • Ensure applications are available, capable, & accessible to meet production & business requirements
  • Ensure department is operating in accordance with internal/external regulations & governance
  • Manage cost and external vendor relations
  • Follow all safety & environmental requirements in the performance of duties
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements

Ability to work in an open office environment with the possibility of frequent distraction. Ability to travel up to 10% of the time. (% can change on a case-by-case basis based on the role.)

Development of People

Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process.

Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study from an accredited university (MA/MS degree preferred) required
  • Minimum of ten (10) years IT or Automation experience in a GMP manufacturing environment required
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of people leadership experience, including demonstrated ability to lead/direct other people leaders (supervisors), to build a collaborative high performing team environment in a technical context & to inspire & motivate employees through continuous feedback required
  • BMS, PCS, MES, PLC/SCADA, Historian; prefer knowledge & experience with DeltaV, Syncade & Rockwell PLC systems preferred
  • Networking & firewalls preferred
  • IT security & domains preferred
  • Lean manufacturing techniques & methodologies preferred
  • Production support process experience and knowledge a plus
  • Organization/Planning: Project management & IT governance, including support & system management, business continuity & forecasting preferred
