Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.
• CPA certification is required.
• 7–10 years of accounting experience with at least 2 years in leadership.
• Experience in public accounting at Manager level or outsourced leadership is preferred.
• Deep GAAP knowledge and startup/high-growth experience.
• Experience with SAFEs, convertible instruments, ASC 606, equity compensation.
• Strong ability to lead a team while managing client portfolios and delivering high quality work.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for senior client interactions.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks Online; NetSuite or Sage Intacct preferred.

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Manager, Accounting Team Lead based in the United States.

This fully remote leadership role is responsible for ensuring consistent, high-quality accounting delivery across a portfolio of client engagements.

You will lead, coach, and develop Client Leads and accounting professionals while maintaining strong technical and professional standards.

The role combines people leadership, client service, accounting expertise, capacity planning, and quality management.

You will serve as an escalation point for complex delivery, client, and resourcing challenges while helping your team solve problems independently.

Working in a distributed professional services environment, you will establish clear expectations and create operating rhythms that keep teams accountable and effective.

You will maintain direct client exposure to stay technically current and model the standards expected across the team.

Accountabilities

• Coach Client Leads on solution design, client management, delivery strategy, technical judgment, and professional standards.

• Review client engagement approaches to identify technical risks, complexity, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improvement.

• Act as the primary escalation point for delivery challenges, client concerns, capacity issues, and other risks affecting team or client outcomes.

• Ensure accounting work and client deliverables produced by the team consistently meet established quality standards before reaching clients.

• Conduct formal performance reviews and ongoing career development conversations with direct reports.

• Identify capability gaps and address them through coaching, training, mentoring, and other development resources.

• Build a team culture where Client Leads operate with confidence, accountability, sound judgment, and appropriate independence.

• Balance workloads across Client Leads and adjust team resources to accommodate accounting close periods, changing client demands, and coverage requirements.

• Promote consistent execution across client engagements while avoiding unnecessary processes or administrative complexity.

• Ensure client relationships and processes are not dependent on a single individual by promoting cross-training, documentation, and knowledge sharing.

• Maintain a focused personal client portfolio to remain technically current, demonstrate expected standards, and serve as a credible coaching and escalation resource.

• Partner with other service lines and teams to translate organizational standards into practical, client-ready execution.

• Proactively identify recurring delivery issues, client patterns, operational risks, and improvement opportunities and communicate them to senior leadership.

• Model clear communication, responsiveness, accountability, and professional judgment in a fully remote environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.

• CPA certification required.

• 7--10 years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a Client Lead, Manager, or team leadership position.

• Experience in public accounting at the Manager level or in outsourced accounting leadership is strongly preferred.

• Deep working knowledge of GAAP and experience addressing accounting complexities commonly encountered by startups and high-growth companies.

• Experience with areas such as SAFEs, convertible instruments, ASC 606, equity compensation, and other startup-specific accounting matters.

• Demonstrated ability to manage both a team and client portfolio while maintaining high standards for quality, responsiveness, and client service.

• Strong coaching and feedback skills, with demonstrated experience developing junior and mid-level accounting professionals.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the executive presence required for senior client interactions.

• Strong judgment, problem-solving ability, responsiveness, and accountability in complex or fast-moving situations.

• Proficiency with QuickBooks Online; experience with NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar accounting platforms is preferred.

• Experience working in a remote professional services environment is strongly preferred.

• Ability to lead effectively without physical proximity by setting clear expectations, maintaining structured communication rhythms, and holding team members accountable.

• Strong client-service orientation and ability to balance technical accounting expertise with commercial and relationship considerations.
