Job summary

Foster McKay is seeking a Senior Manager, Accounting to oversee key accounting operations and close activities for a publicly traded, late-stage biopharmaceutical company. This hands-on role will own complex areas including clinical trial and R&D accruals, support SEC reporting and SOX compliance, and lead one direct report.

Responsibilities include managing monthly closes, preparing financial statements, ensuring U.S. GAAP consolidation, and partnering with Clinical Operations, R&D, and FP&A.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of close activities and review of others' work.
• Public company accounting experience with strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SOX, and quarterly/annual reporting requirements.
• Biotech or pharmaceutical industry experience required.
• Hands-on experience with clinical trial and/or R&D accrual accounting required.
• Public accounting experience preferred; Big Four experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own complex clinical trial and R&D accruals and prepaids related to CROs and vendors.
• Prepare balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow analyses and reconcile accrual estimates to actuals.
• Support U.S. GAAP consolidation across entities, including intercompany reconciliations and currency accounting.
• Partner with Clinical Operations, R&D, Procurement, and FP&A to develop accurate accounting estimates.
• Support cash reporting, forecasting inputs, investment transfers, and treasury documentation.
• Execute SOX controls and maintain supporting documentation.
• Prepare schedules and disclosures for 10-Q and 10-K; coordinate audits.
• Mentor a Senior Accountant and coordinate outsourced resources.
• Improve close and consolidation workflows through standardization and automation.
• Support ERP tooling implementations and IT/FP&A integrations.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Close

• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and review of staff or outsourced work.
• Own complex clinical trial and R&D accruals and prepaids related to CROs, investigative sites, contract manufacturers, and other vendors.
• Prepare balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow analyses and reconcile accrual estimates to actual results.
• Support U.S. GAAP consolidation across U.S. and international entities, including intercompany reconciliations, eliminations, and foreign currency accounting.
• Partner with Clinical Operations, R&D, Procurement, and FP&A to assess services performed and develop accurate accounting estimates.
• Support cash reporting, forecasting inputs, investment transfers, and treasury-related documentation.

Reporting, Controls & Audit

• Execute assigned SOX controls and maintain appropriate supporting documentation.
• Prepare schedules and disclosure support for 10-Q and 10-K filings.
• Coordinate quarterly review and annual audit requests with internal and external auditors.
• Support debt covenant reporting and tax compliance requests as needed.
• Escalate technical accounting matters and significant issues to accounting leadership.

Leadership & Business Partnership

• Supervise and develop a Senior Accountant while reviewing deliverables and coordinating outsourced accounting resources.
• Provide clear financial analyses and explanations to Accounting leadership, FP&A, and business partners.
• Partner cross-functionally with Clinical Operations, R&D, Procurement, FP&A, IT, and other stakeholders.

Process & Systems

• Support accounting processes and reporting within NetSuite, including chart of accounts maintenance and data quality.
• Improve close and consolidation workflows through standardization and automation.
• Support implementation and optimization of accounting tools and systems.
• Partner with FP&A and IT on ERP reporting, integrations, testing, and process enhancements.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of close activities and review of others' work.
• Public company accounting experience with strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SOX, and quarterly/annual reporting requirements.
• Biotech or pharmaceutical industry experience required.
• Hands-on experience with clinical trial and/or R&D accrual accounting required.
• Public accounting experience preferred; Big Four experience is a plus.
• International consolidation and intercompany accounting experience preferred.
• Experience with revenue recognition, inventory, cost accounting, and COGS is a plus.
• NetSuite and FloQast experience strongly preferred.
• Strong Excel skills and ability to connect financial results to supporting operational data.
• Experience mentoring staff or coordinating outsourced accounting resources.
• Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
