Job summary

United Community is seeking a Major Gifts Officer to own qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a high-capacity donor portfolio in Virginia. This role partners with the CEO, board, and Senior Director to coordinate major gifts and legacy giving strategies while ensuring disciplined donor data in the CRM.

We emphasize authentic relationship building, tailored solicitation, and cross‑team collaboration to maximize philanthropic impact and long-term support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
• 3–5 years of fundraising, major gifts, donor relations, development, relationship management, or comparable experience.
• Demonstrated success personally soliciting and closing five- or six-figure gifts.

Responsibilities

• Own qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of high-capacity donors.
• Coordinate with CEO, board, and senior leadership to align major gifts and legacy giving strategies.
• Solicit major gifts through meetings, proposals, events, and tailored engagement opportunities.
• Track moves management progress and update CRM records regularly.
• Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors across the region.
• Provide strategic recommendations for blended gifts and multiyear giving plans.
• Build authentic donor relationships linking philanthropic interests with the organization’s mission.
