Job summary

The City of Roanoke, Virginia is seeking an experienced, self-motivated individual to perform skilled mechanical work on a variety of medium and heavy automotive and specialized equipment. You will diagnose, repair, and service equipment including diesel engines, air compressors, hydraulic systems, and transmissions.

A Class B CDL and State Inspector eligibility are required; two ASE certs within 1 year are needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and 3–5 years related experience in trades.
• Must qualify for State Inspector certification and hold a Class B CDL.
• Two ASE certifications required within 1 year of employment; CDL and inspection licenses preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and participates in maintenance, construction, and utility activities.
• Diagnoses, repairs, and services a wide range of medium and heavy equipment.
• Operates and maintains construction and street equipment as needed.
• Requisitions parts, maintains logs, and enforces safety procedures.
• Trains subordinates and supports special events and snow removal tasks.
