Job summary

City of Roanoke, Virginia is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician IV to perform skilled mechanical work on heavy and light power-driven equipment. The role includes diagnosing, adjusting, repairing and servicing diesel and gasoline engines, air compressors, pump systems, and aerial truck hydraulics.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, 3–5 years of related experience, and a valid driver's license; State Inspection and Class B CDL preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and 3–5 years experience in trades
• Valid drivers license for relevant vehicle classes
• State Inspection license and Class B CDL preferred or CDL within 12 months
• Three ASE certifications within 2 years of employment
• Must be on-call after regular hours on standby

Responsibilities

• Supervises and participates in maintenance and construction work
• Inspects work in progress for conformance with instructions
• Requisitions equipment and materials
• Maintains time and material records; prepares simple reports
• Performs or assists in skilled tasks
• Diagnoses, repairs and services power-driven equipment including diesel/gasoline engines, air compressors, pumps and hydraulics
• Coordinates with other departments and public
• Performs multiple trades at master level (motor repair, welding, carpentry, HVAC, electrical, plumbing)
• Operates heavy and light equipment for snow removal
• Supports special events and emergency tasks; some nights/weekends as needed
• Follows safety rules and regulatory requirements
