Job summary

The City of Roanoke's Fleet Division seeks a motivated individual to service and maintain automotive and construction equipment and to operate vehicles such as wreckers and dump trucks. You will grease, change oil, service batteries, and perform basic repairs while supporting events, snow removal, and emergency tasks.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, 1–3 years related experience, and the ability to obtain a CDL within 6 months; ASE certification within 2.5 years is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; 1–3 years related experience and/or training in operation of motorized equipment and heavy manual labor.
• CDL with appropriate endorsements within 6 months of employment.
• ASE certification required within 2.5 years of employment.

Responsibilities

• Operates street sweeper and/or dump truck, loads and unloads materials.
• Operates light motorized equipment such as riding mowers, forklift, chipper, and ice resurfacing machine.
• Performs maintenance tasks and light repairs on equipment and related facilities.
• Greases and lubricates a variety of motorized equipment including automobiles and construction equipment.
• Changes oil and filters on a variety of motorized equipment.
• May assist with event support, snow removal and other emergency tasks.
