Job summary

The City of Roanoke is seeking an experienced technician to perform skilled mechanical work on a variety of medium and heavy automotive and specialized equipment. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED and 3–5 years in trades, plus a Class B CDL and State Inspector certification within one year.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with 3–5 years related experience in repairs or skilled trades.
• Ability to diagnose, repair and service medium/heavy equipment and specialized systems.
• May require CDL Class B and certification as a State Inspector within specified timeframe.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a small crew and assign work.
• Inspect, diagnose, repair and service a wide range of power-driven equipment.
• Coordinate parts and materials; ensure safety practices are followed.
• Oversee maintenance, repairs and operational readiness of trucks and heavy machinery.
