Job summary

The National Council of Young Men's Christian Associations of the United States of America—doing business as YMCA of Greater New York—seeks a Mechanic II for the Long Island City YMCA in Queens, NY. Full-time role maintaining HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry and pool systems, including cleaning and cosmetic upkeep.

Under the supervision of the Property Manager, you will perform preventive maintenance, coordinate with branch leadership, and ensure compliance with DOH/DOB/FDNY/HPD/ECB

Qualifications

• Three to five years of maintenance and building construction experience.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
• Ability to maintain and adjust controls, systems, preventive maintenance, and repair.
• Understanding of cleaning chemicals and safe use (MSDS).
• Within one year, obtain S12, S13 and C42 Pool Certifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs and preventive maintenance in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and pool equipment.
• Perform building construction work as directed by branch leadership.
• Clean bathrooms, classrooms, locker rooms, Fitness Center, offices, and common spaces.
• Store deliveries, move furniture, set up/break down rooms, and remove snow.
• Strip and wax floors and shampoo rugs as needed.
• Inform the Property Manager of building issues.
• Responsible for painting when assigned.
• Follow DOH, DOB, FDNY, HPD, and ECB standards.
