Job summary

The YMCA of Greater New York is seeking a Mechanic at Vanderbilt YMCA in New York, NY to maintain and repair HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry systems, and to perform building repairs and cosmetic upgrades. The role includes cleaning indoor and outdoor areas and ensuring spaces are ready for programs.

Required is a High School diploma or equivalent with 2–3 years in maintenance/building work, pool maintenance knowledge, and the ability to work flexible hours and be on call 24/7 when the

Qualifications

• Two to three years of maintenance and building construction experience.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
• Understanding of mechanical testing equipment.
• Ability to maintain pool systems.
• Fire Safety Director certification or ability to obtain within 1 year.
• Building certification within 3 months.
• S12, S13, and C42 Pool Certifications within 1 year.
• Flexible hours and on-call 24/7 when not on-site.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs and preventive maintenance in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and pool equipment.
• Conduct building construction tasks as directed by leadership.
• Clean restrooms, classrooms, locker rooms, fitness areas, offices, and spaces.
• Store deliveries, move furniture, set up/break down rooms, and remove snow.
• Strip and wax floors and shampoo rugs as needed.
• Inform the Property Manager of building issues.
• Paint when assigned.
• Follow DOH, DOB, FDNY, HPD, and ECB standards.
• Other duties as assigned.
