Job summary

The YMCA of Greater New York is hiring a Full-Time Mechanic at the Coney Island YMCA in Brooklyn, NY. Under the Property Manager, you will maintain HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry systems, perform building repairs, and keep the facility clean and safe across multiple sites.

You should have a high school diploma and 2–3 years of maintenance experience, with knowledge of cleaning methods and basic equipment. Flexible hours and on-call duties are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Two (2) to three (3) years of maintenance and building construction work experience.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
• Knowledge of the use of mechanical, test equipment.
• Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe use.
• Maintain FDNY, DOB, and DOH logbooks as required.
• Pool maintenance ability and related certifications.
• Must obtain required certifications within specified timelines.
• Ability to work flexible hours and be on call 24/7 when needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs and preventive maintenance in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and swimming pool equipment.
• Perform building construction work as directed by branch leadership.
• Clean bathrooms, classrooms, locker rooms, Fitness Center, and all spaces within the branch.
• Store deliveries, move furniture, set up/break down rooms, and remove snow.
• Strip and wax floors and shampoo rugs as needed.
• Inform the Property Manager of all building issues.
• Responsible for painting when assigned.
• Follow DOH, DOB, FDNY, HPD, and ECB standards.
• Other duties as assigned.
