Job summary

Office of the Illinois Secretary of State in Springfield seeks an Information Systems Advisor I to manage z/OS mainframe environments, including core subsystems and security controls. You will monitor, optimize, and support RACF security, VM workloads, and IBM storage solutions, with on‑call responsibility and disaster recovery duties.

Qualifications

• Requires two years of college with coursework in computer science and 4.5 years of related IT experience.
• At least 1 year supervisory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, modernize and optimize the z/OS operating systems and core subsystems (TWS, DB2, CICS, MQ) to ensure stability and enterprise standards.
• Support IBM mainframe hardware infrastructure, including processors, storage subsystems, and peripherals; monitor performance and capacity.
• Provide 24x7 on-call support for critical system issues and coordinate resolutions for maximum availability.
• Manage IBM SAN storage, replication, and VTL systems; oversee backup and recovery processes.
• Administer z/OS networking (TCP/IP, routing, encryption) and perform security tuning/troubleshooting.
• Maintain the disaster recovery environment to ensure resilience and rapid recovery of mainframe operations.
• Assist with mainframe security controls using RACF and ensure compliance with cybersecurity and audit requirements.
• Guide staff in configuring and maintaining z/VM and virtualized Linux workloads.
