Job summary

M&T Bank in Clanton, Alabama seeks a Systems Programmer III – Mainframe Networking to design, implement, and support IBM z/OS networking for essential banking apps. You will lead, troubleshoot, and optimize secure mainframe connectivity across enterprise networks while partnering with security and operations teams.

The role requires senior expertise in VTAM/TCP/IP, middleware, and security, with strong collaboration and documentation skills.

Qualifications

• Expert-level knowledge of z/OS Communication Server including VTAM, TCP/IP, FTP, SFTP, TLS/AT-TLS, OSA-Express, TN3270 Services, DNS and Enterprise Extender, plus Connect:Direct (NDM).
• In-depth knowledge of SMP/E & z/OSMF for software installation and maintenance.
• Fluency in JCL, REXX, and CLIST among others.
• Analytical and problem-solving abilities for diagnosing complex issues.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• System Management & Product Maintenance: Install, customize, and maintain mainframe network software (VTAM, TCP/IP, FTP, SFTP, TLS/AT-TLS, OSA-Express, TN3270, DNS, Enterprise Extender) and Connect:Direct (NDM).
• Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution: Serve as escalation point for complex mainframe networking issues; perform root cause analysis and coordinate fixes.
• Performance and Tuning: Monitor performance, plan capacity, and optimize for SLA compliance.
• Security and Compliance: Implement security protocols with CA-ACF2, including AT-TLS configuration and certificate mgmt.
• Project Leadership: Lead medium/large projects, upgrades, DR planning and exercises.
• Collaboration and Mentoring: Guide junior staff and work with cross-functional teams.
• Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of configurations and procedures.
• Education: Represent the Bank at vendor conferences and promote new technologies.
