Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mainframe Developer to join a Mainframe Engineering team supporting complex, enterprise-scale systems and major technology initiatives. This role requires deep hands-on expertise across the COBOL mainframe technology stack, including COBOL, DB2, CICS, and JCL.

The Senior Mainframe Developer will design, develop, test, implement, and enhance high-quality mainframe solutions while collaborating with engineering teams, product teams, and business partners in an Agile environment. The ideal candidate is comfortable working within large, complex mainframe environments and can independently troubleshoot and solve technical challenges.

This position will also participate in an on-call rotation, including both business-hours and after-hours support as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and implement mainframe applications and solutions using COBOL, DB2, CICS, and JCL.
• Analyze business and system requirements and translate them into scalable, high-quality technical solutions.
• Troubleshoot, maintain, optimize, and enhance existing mainframe applications within a high-availability enterprise environment.
• Identify and resolve complex technical issues across mainframe applications and systems.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and business teams to align technical solutions with project and organizational objectives.
• Follow established development standards, technical documentation, and operational processes.
• Provide production support and participate in on-call coverage as required.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on mainframe development experience, including strong expertise with: COBOL, DB2, CICS, and JCL
• Demonstrated experience developing and supporting applications in large-scale, complex mainframe environments.
• Strong understanding of Agile software development methodologies and SDLC practices.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and within cross-functional engineering teams.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with AWS or Microsoft Azure cloud environments.
• Experience working in both collaborative team environments and independently as an individual contributor.
