Job summary

Type One Energy Group in Knoxville, TN is seeking a Senior Magnet Engineer to design, test and build HTS magnets for our stellarator program. You will work with a team of engineers to advance magnet technology, from winding to integration, in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience with HTS/LTS magnets, cryogenics, and magnet testing, plus proficiency in COMSOL/ANSYS.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 10 years engineering experience.
• Master's degree with 5 years experience.
• PhD with 2 years experience.
• Proven experience in designing and building LTS or HTS magnets.
• Experience with COMSOL and ANSYS; magnet winding, assembly, and testing.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, test and build HTS magnets from scratch.
• Develop specifications and requirements for magnets based on system design and performance goals.
• Create designs using engineering software to optimize magnet performance.
• Coordinate with magnet manufacturing to wind and assemble magnets.
• Participate in magnet testing and data analysis to ensure performance specs.
• Develop and maintain documentation on design, fabrication, testing, and performance.
• Integrate magnets into the overall stellarator design with other engineering groups.
• Stay current with latest magnet technology in the fusion sector.
