Job summary

Thea Energy in the United States seeks a Director - HTS Magnet Engineering to lead the design, build, and test of high temperature superconducting magnets for planar coil stellarators. You will own the magnet engineering roadmap end-to-end, manage engineering managers and cross-functional workstreams, and align development with company milestones.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of engineering leadership experience in magnets, cryogenics, vacuum systems, or transformer design.
• Proven track record building and scaling engineering teams.
• Fluent with CAD and multiphysics simulations to review complex analyses.
• Experience managing vendor and supply chain relationships for complex hardware.
• Strong strategic ability to translate system goals into executable roadmaps.
• Experience in fast-paced, regulated, highly technical environments.

Responsibilities

• Own strategy, roadmap, and execution of HTS magnet engineering aligned with fusion milestones.
• Lead multi-level teams of engineers and managers.
• Decompose magnet specifications from system design goals and performance targets.
• Provide senior technical oversight of analyses, tooling, and data infrastructure.
• Drive design-for-manufacturing and transition to scalable production.
• Own vendor relationships and ensure timely delivery against requirements.
• Oversee test infrastructure, qualification, and reliability testing.
• Track progress, risk, budget, and milestones for leadership.
• Represent magnet engineering to investors, partners, and broader community.
• Collaborate with adjacent teams to integrate magnet development with stellarator design.
