Job summary

The State of New Hampshire is seeking a skilled machinist supervisor to manage a repair/fabrication machine shop supporting NH DOT equipment and fleet needs. You will supervise staff, plan work, and ensure parts are produced to exact specifications from metal stock.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting complex failures, fabricating custom components, and coordinating with vendors while adhering to safety and environmental regulations.

Qualifications

• Equivalent combination of 5.5 years of education and experience after high school.
• Experience in machine fabrication, heavy equipment mechanics, or related field.
• At least 1 year of supervisory experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Must possess machinist/mechanic’s hand tools.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and use a respirator.

Responsibilities

• Assigns, plans, directs and reviews machinist work to ensure compliance with standards and timeliness.
• Operates stationary machine shop equipment including lathes and milling machines to manufacture parts from metal stock.
• Analyzes equipment failures to determine repairs and modifications.
• Supports fleet upfitting with custom parts fabrication and repairs.
• Fabricates components and procures repair parts with vendors as needed.
• Overhauls hydraulic pumps, motors, and lifting jacks to avoid new purchases.
• Prepares time sheets, conducts evaluations, and trains staff.
• Complies with safety, risk management, and environmental standards.
