Job summary

U.S. Fleet Forces Command at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard seeks a Machinist Leader (Expert) to lead the MECHANICAL SHOP 931/938. You will supervise work, mentor tradespeople, and ensure quality and safety in naval component fabrication and overhaul.

This role requires strong instruction ability, hands-on leadership, and willingness to travel for DoD missions as needed. You will plan, inspect, troubleshoot equipment, implement process improvements, and uphold security clearances.

Responsibilities

• Inspect completed and in-process work for quality and adherence to requirements, specifications, standards, plans and schedules.
• Train and mentor less skilled employees; demonstrate proper work methods and discuss viable alternatives and considerations.
• Research to continually improve trade processes and keep shop personnel aware of new technologies, procedures, best practices, and tooling improvements.
• Ensure that safety and housekeeping rules are followed.
• Plan, operate, and troubleshoot various types of equipment used to manufacture and overhaul marine components from start to finish.
• PassInstructions received from supervisors and provide overview of tasks to be performed to other workers.
