Job summary

Ford is seeking a Lead Manufacturing Engineer to guide the development, installation, and continuous improvement of round part and crankshaft machining systems for powertrain programs. The role combines leadership, process expertise, supplier coordination, and cross-functional execution to deliver safe, high-quality, cost-effective machining solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline required; Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years in Manufacturing Engineering, launch, machining process engineering, or plant operations.
  • Project/ program leadership experience required.
  • Strong GD&T, blueprint reading, tolerance stack-up, and process design knowledge.
  • Lean material flow principles and machining system layout understanding.
  • Time and motion study principles applied to machining process design.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel to Michigan and surrounding states about 50% of the time.
  • Hybrid work model with on-site four or more days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Lead onsite installation, launch, and implementation of machining components and systems.
  • Develop and maintain machining strategies and standard specifications.
  • Provide extensive machining process expertise including cutting, grinding, GD&T, and heat treat feasibility.
  • Interface with Product Engineering, Operations, suppliers, purchasing, and cross-functional teams.
  • Mentor crankshaft tooling and gauging principles within the team.
  • Lead APQP, PPAP, FMEA, 8D, Lean, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Assign resources and drive program execution across North American plants.
  • Supervise objectives, coaching, performance reviews, and travel approvals.
