Job summary

Colonna’s Shipyard is seeking a Superintendent II to support operations at our Norfolk, VA site within Steel America.

The role oversees the Inside Machine Shop machining activities, plans personnel, equipment, materials, and schedules, and serves as the SME for fabrication and machining engineering.

Candidates must demonstrate strong leadership, planning, and communication skills, with deep knowledge of propulsion shafting and large-component repair.

Qualifications

• Six years in shipyard operations focusing on machined and mechanical components.
• Four years in a machine shop or heavy industrial repair environment in a management-type capacity handling multi-trade crews.
• Clear understanding of contract value and current costs.
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral, to report to all stakeholders.
• Experience with Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
• Strong planning and project management skills.
• Thorough knowledge of machining processes, including propulsion shafting.

Responsibilities

• Act as a go-to expert to ensure machining aspects of complex projects are planned from sketch to final cut.
• Involved early in project planning with PMs, superintendents, and fabrication leadership.
• Advise on designs and materials and determine critical machining timelines.
• Review blueprints for issues and suggest design changes for efficiency.
• Manage machining portions of project budgets and approve tooling orders.
• Oversee shop-based machining and repair projects and budgets/schedules.
• Develop and adhere to maintenance and repair budgets and control expenditures.
• Prepare and present status reports to customers and management.
• Monitor contractors and ensure timely, cost-effective execution.
• Conduct on-site surveys to identify machining and repair needs.
