Job summary

Blue Origin, located in California, seeks a Senior Software Engineer to design and implement the MAC control plane for the TeraWave network. You will develop scalable algorithms and state machines for TDMA, DAMA, QoS, and resource management across beams and satellites.

You will collaborate with PHY, modem, and networking teams to build a high-throughput, low-latency wireless stack and drive hardware integration, testing, and deployment for space-based communications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field.
• Seven or more years of software-development experience in wireless networking, communication systems, embedded systems, or high-performance networking.
• Advanced proficiency in C or C++ with concurrent, timing-sensitive software in Linux, real-time Linux, or RTOS environments.
• Experience designing or implementing wireless MAC protocols, resource schedulers, protocol state machines, flow-control mechanisms, or QoS systems.
• Experience developing software through hardware integration, system testing, performance characterization, and production deployment.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement MAC control-plane software for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint satellite links.
• Develop scalable TDMA, DAMA, admission-control, and resource-allocation algorithms for many beams and terminals.
• Implement state machines for link establishment, maintenance, reconfiguration, teardown, and fault recovery.
• Develop MAC control logic for QoS enforcement, traffic prioritization, flow control, retransmission, and coordinated link adaptation.
• Define and implement interfaces between MAC control plane, PHY, modem, networking data plane and MAC hardware functions.
• Evaluate centralized, distributed, and hierarchical MAC-control architectures for latency and scalability.
• Build simulation, test, telemetry, and performance-analysis capabilities to validate protocol behavior under mobility and failure scenarios.
• Lead MAC control-plane development from architecture through hardware integration and deployment.
