Job summary

The Office of the State Auditor (OSA) Audit Practice Division in Minnesota seeks a Senior Local Government Auditor to lead planning and execution of audits for local governments. The role includes guiding junior staff, ensuring compliance with GAAP/GASB and federal requirements, and delivering high-quality financial reporting.

Interviews may be held in Marshall. Start date around October 12, 2026, with occasional travel and telework eligibility as noted.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or master’s with accounting concentration from an accredited institution.
• At least two years of progressively responsible experience reviewing audit documentation and guiding staff on governmental financial and compliance audits.
• At least two years’ experience planning an audit and preparing audit reports, financial statement disclosures, management letters and single audits in accordance with applicable standards.
• Knowledge of GAAP/GASB for local governments.
• Knowledge of GAAS/GAGAS for audits of local governments.
• Knowledge of audit requirements for federal awards (Uniform Guidance and OMB Compliance).

Responsibilities

• Playing a lead role in the planning and completion of individual audits.
• Self-directing completion of complex audit sections and financial reporting; and
• Providing day-to-day guidance and coaching to less experienced professional auditors.
