General Summary

The Mortgage Loan Processing team plays a critical role in supporting the mortgage lending process by ensuring loan files are complete, accurate, and ready for underwriting and closing. The Senior Loan Processor is an experienced mortgage professional responsible for managing complex loan files, ensuring compliance with investor and regulatory requirements, and serving as a subject matter expert for the processing team. This role provides technical guidance and support to processors, mentors less experienced team members, and serves as a key resource for escalated or high-risk files. The Senior Loan Processor partners closely with underwriting, closing, and management to identify process improvements, promote operational efficiency, maintain quality standards, and deliver an exceptional customer experience.

Work Arrangement: This position is eligible for a hybrid or fully remote work schedule following a two-week in-office training period. Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of an MVB office and be available to attend in-person training, team meetings, and other onsite business activities as needed.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Independently manages a pipeline of high-complexity loans, including jumbo, construction, and specialty programs.
  • Acts as the primary liaison between processing, underwriting, and closing teams for escalated or time-sensitive files.
  • Conducts advanced compliance reviews and resolves issues prior to underwriting submission.
  • Identifies systemic processing risks, recommends corrective actions, and partners with leadership to implement process improvements.
  • Provides ongoing coaching, training, and technical guidance to processors, helping develop department expertise and ensuring consistent application of policies, procedures, and investor guidelines.
  • Monitors pipeline performance metrics and proactively addresses processing delays, quality concerns, and exception trends.
  • Participates in strategic projects to improve operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Recommends and implements process enhancements based on regulatory changes, investor updates, and industry best practices.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert and resource for regulatory requirements, investor guidelines, and complex processing scenarios.
  • Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness and the bank's compliance with all regulatory requirements, e.g. Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Equal Credit Opportunity Act, etc.
  • Supports and participates in community activities and initiatives.
  • Other duties necessary to meet business objectives.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • High school diploma required; associate degree in business or related field preferred.
  • Mortgage industry certifications (e.g., NAMP, AMP, or similar) preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive mortgage processing experience, including complex loan products, investor guidelines, regulatory compliance, quality control standards, and escalated loan files.
  • Expertise in conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, jumbo, construction, and specialty mortgage products.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, train, and provide technical guidance to less experienced processors while serving as a subject matter expert.
  • Ability to manage high-volume, complex loan pipelines and competing priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Encompass, and other mortgage technology platforms.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
