Elder Homestead, part of Volunteers of America National Services (VOANS), is seeking a Cook to provide quality food service aligned with state and federal regulations for residents. The role focuses on meal preparation, serving, and adherence to nutrition and safety standards in a senior living setting.

Responsibilities include planning cooking schedules, preparing dishes with proper portions, monitoring temperatures, and assisting with inventory.

Qualifications

• Friendly and enjoy working with the elderly.
• High School diploma/GED required preferred.
• Must be 18 years or older.
• General knowledge of quantity food preparation and portioned serving.
• Ability to communicate with staff, residents, family members and the public.
• Numerical ability for inventory, records and recipes.
• Physical strength and endurance for heavy kitchen tasks.
• Ability to follow procedures and diet orders.

Responsibilities

• Completes defined food preparation, serving of meals and cleaning duties as assigned.
• Plans and initiates cooking schedule for meal preparation.
• Prepares, seasons, cooks and serves meat, main dish, soup and vegetables with proper portions.
• Prepares nutritional snacks for residents as assigned.
• Tastes and smells prepared food to ensure quality.
• Monitors food temperatures to meet goals during service.
• Stores leftovers per sanitation regulations.
• Supervises dietary staff in absence of supervisors; re-assigns work as needed.
• Assists with department inventory.
