Homewood Living Plum Creek is seeking a part-time Activities Assistant to support the Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator in delivering individualized and group programs for residents, enhancing psycho-social well-being. The role emphasizes confidentiality, teamwork, and skillful engagement with seniors in daily activities.

Responsibilities include coordinating activities, guiding orientation exercises, scheduling van outings, supervising volunteers, and communicating observations to nursing

Qualifications

• Read, write and understand English well.
• Compassion and empathy for older persons.
• Follow oral and written instructions.
• Listen and communicate with residents at a level they understand.
• Motivate and encourage older persons.
• Creativity and planning abilities for resident activities.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive Homewood’s van.
• Experience working with elderly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists in carrying out individual and group activities to meet residents' psycho-social needs.
• Treats resident information as confidential.
• Supports development and coordination of activities.
• Guides Reality Orientation activities and calendars.
• Schedules use of the company van for outings and events.
• Assists in assigning volunteers to activities with supervision.
• Participates in resident care planning when helpful.
• Supports external groups and weekend/evening activities.
• Documents attendance and notes changes in residents' status to the nurse.
• Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.
