Job summary

American Express in the United States is seeking a seasoned General Counsel litigation leader to oversee the Center for Cardmember and Merchant Litigation portfolio, guiding strategy and supervising a team of attorneys and paralegals to mitigate risk and promote company goals.

You will develop litigation strategies, conduct early case assessments, oversee negotiations, provide root-cause analyses, and deliver regular reporting and training to business lawyers and clients, while collaborating

Qualifications

• J.D. and bar admission in relevant jurisdiction.
• 10+ years in general litigation with commercial and consumer finance experience.
• Proven leadership of teams and ability to manage multiple matters.

Responsibilities

• Managing a dynamic portfolio of individual consumer and commercial litigation handled internally by the Center for Cardmember and Merchant Litigation to achieve Company's risk and mitigation goals.
• Managing, developing, and implementing specific litigation strategies for internal litigation portfolio including analysis of disputes, early case assessments, negotiation and development of appropriate case resolutions.
• Building efficiencies and impactful strategies across internal litigation portfolio.
• Providing litigation root-cause analyses and mitigation strategies; undertaking analysis of litigation-related issues.
• Developing and providing clear reporting and metrics regularly to leadership concerning internal litigation portfolio.
• Providing litigation risk mitigation training and advice to business lawyers and clients, including review of contracts and other documents as necessary.
• Work with a talented team of attorneys and paralegals to accomplish Company's risk and mitigation goals and to create growth and learning opportunities for team members.
