Job summary

System One IT is seeking a Senior Linux/Unix Systems Engineer to lead the Linux platform across RHEL and Oracle Linux. This hands-on role involves architecture ownership, automation, and modernization efforts, with mentoring duties for administrators and a focus on security hardening and compliance.

The position is hybrid in Washington, DC, offering an hourly rate of $75/hr with W2 benefits and a conversion salary up to $150,000 annually plus benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required and 8+ years of Linux/Unix administration and engineering experience.
• 3+ years in senior/lead roles with design and architecture ownership for an enterprise Linux environment.
• RHCSA certification required; RHCE/LPIC-2/CompTIA Linux+ preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own engineering and architecture decisions for the RHEL and Oracle Linux estate, including server builds and platform standards.
• Design and maintain patch and configuration management using Red Hat Satellite and Ansible; automate workflows.
• Lead OS migrations (RHEL 7/8/9) including upgrade paths and cloud transition planning.
• Apply CIS Benchmarks, DISA STIGs, and support FISMA/NIST 800-53 controls and audits.
• Mentor admins, perform root cause analyses, and document engineering designs and SOPs.
• Ensure high availability, backups, DR, and patching; monitor performance and security compliance.
