Job summary

Swift in Virginia seeks a senior Linux Engineer to own and operate Linux platforms in production and pre-production environments. You will provide L2 incident response, root-cause analysis, and remediation, while leading complex troubleshooting and lifecycle activities.

The role requires 7–10 years of large-scale RHEL experience, strong automation and scripting skills, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to maintain stable platform services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science or Engineering.
• Demonstrated expertise administering and supporting enterprise Linux environments (Red Hat Enterprise Linux).
• Microsoft or Red Hat certifications are a plus (e.g., MSCA/MSCE, RHCSA/RHCE).
• 7–10 years of experience supporting and engineering large-scale Linux platforms (RHEL) across virtualized environments.
• Strong background in production operations including incident response, problem management, and change execution.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a senior technical owner for Linux platforms in production and pre-production environments.
• Provide L2 operational support for Linux systems including incident triage, root-cause analysis, and permanent remediation.
• Lead and participate in troubleshooting OS, performance, and platform-level issues.
• Execute and support patching, upgrades, and lifecycle activities per change and release management standards.
• Collaborate with Product Owners and application/infrastructure teams to ensure stable platform services.
• Identify recurring issues and drive continuous improvement via tooling, docs, and processes.
• Contribute to monitoring, alerting, and observability improvements to reduce firefighting.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote strong operational practices.
• Document systems and runbooks; communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Participate in on-call rotations and provide senior-level support during incidents.
