Job summary

Boston University IS&T is seeking a Systems Administrator III to join the Linux Server Team. You will manage Linux servers, apply patches, automate tasks, and collaborate across campus to ensure availability and security of essential services.

The role includes a 24/7 on-call rotation and hybrid/remote work options; strong scripting and networking skills are essential to support diverse BU client systems and infrastructure modernization efforts.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant work experience or equivalent
• Experience with CentOS/RHEL Linux systems administration and basic Linux utilities
• Scripting in Linux and CLI proficiency; monitoring, patching, backups, SSL management
• Knowledge of TCP/IP networking and common protocols; server apps deployment

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain Linux server operating systems, hardware, and core infrastructure for reliability, performance and security
• Monitor systems proactively to identify issues and opportunities for improvement
• Troubleshoot incidents and coordinate with teams/vendors for timely resolution
• Provide Level 2 support for complex issues escalated from Help Desk
• Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for critical operations and incident response
• Document systems, standards, and recovery procedures; support business continuity and DR testing
