Job summary

Northern Light seeks a Senior Linux Infrastructure Engineer to own the Linux backbone of our compute-heavy backend, hosted in a private Somerville datacenter. You will drive reliability, security, and automation across hosts, VMs, and core services, collaborating with security, platform, and dev teams.

You will modernize the fleet, manage hardware refresh, and expand automation while ensuring vendor-guided standards and robust disaster recovery planning.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of production Linux systems engineering experience.
• Deep RHEL-family Linux skills and virtualization experience.
• Production experience with VMware vSphere or KVM/libvirt and OpenShift/related platforms.
• Hands-on Ansible authoring and patch/vulnerability management.
• Experience with server hardware lifecycle and data center operations.
• Strong documentation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Patch, harden, and upgrade Linux servers on a controlled cadence.
• Maintain applications and database servers per vendor guidance via Ansible roles.
• Lead vulnerability management and remediation across the fleet.
• Manage backups and disaster recovery planning/exercises.
• Maintain reliable monitoring/logging and actionable alerts.
• Lead incident response and post-incident reviews with clear runbooks.
• Operate remote datacenter with NetBox records and remote hands coordination.
• Coordinate hardware lifecycle and capacity with colo provider.
