tastylive in Chicago is seeking a senior Linux engineer to own the systems layer from metal to configuration management. This hands-on role involves incident response, scalable design, and evaluating new software and architectures.

You’ll work across containers, networking, and observability while improving the infrastructure that supports trading content. Ideal candidate has 6+ years in Linux systems/SRE with experience in Salt/Ansible/Chef/Puppet, Kubernetes or Nomad, and strong scripting.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in a Linux systems, infrastructure, or SRE role.

Responsibilities

• Own Linux performance and tuning under production load.
• Lead troubleshooting on hard problems, write postmortems and plan follow-up tasks.
• Write and maintain configuration management code with Salt, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
• Run containerized workloads on Kubernetes or Nomad, with proper scheduling and health checks.
• Automate using Bash and Python.
• Operate core network services including DNS/DHCP and TCP/IP fundamentals.
• Manage Nginx and HAProxy for traffic routing and TLS termination; support Redis and RabbitMQ.
• Manage virtualization across VMware, Xen, or KVM and perform live migrations.
• Handle secrets with Vault: dynamic credentials, policy, rotation.
• Own observability: log aggregation on Elastic Stack and alerting (Nagios/CheckMK/Icinga).
• Work through change management and code review via Git and PRs.
