Job summary

Microchip Technology Inc. is seeking a Senior Linux Administrator II to design, implement, and manage a global Linux infrastructure with emphasis on the Red Hat ecosystem, automation, and HPC environments.

You will lead standardization, scalability, and operational excellence across enterprise data centers worldwide, mentoring peers and coordinating with leadership on reliability and performance improvements.

Qualifications

• 7.5+ years of hands‑on Linux/Unix system administration experience in enterprise environments.
• Strong experience with designing, architecting, and administering Linux platforms with a heavy focus on RHEL / AlmaLinux
• 3+ years of experience with configuration management (Ansible preferred; Puppet or Chef acceptable)
• 3+ years of experience with Satellite, Foreman, Spacewalk
• Containerization/Virtualization such as Proxmox, Docker, VMware, Kubernetes
• Proficiency in scripting and automation (Python, Perl, Bash)
• Experience with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios, or similar) and alerting systems
• US Citizenship required
• Knowledge of Git and source control
• Bachelor’s degree in CS/IS or equivalent practical experience

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, architecture, and automation of a standardized global Linux infrastructure
• Experience with commercial hypervisors (VMware, Proxmox, etc)
• Provide deep technical expertise across the Red Hat ecosystem, including Satellite Server, IdM
• Manage and support a large global Linux environment with uptime, capacity, and performance tuning
• Own full lifecycle management of global engineering systems from hardware to deployment
• Automate infrastructure deployment using Ansible, Satellite Server (Foreman), and CFEngine
• Develop automation scripts using Python, Perl, and shell
• Drive automation-first mindset to improve efficiency and reliability
• Troubleshoot complex system issues and perform postmortems and incident response planning
• Manage monitoring systems to ensure SLA adherence
• Participate in on-call rotations and provide escalation support
• Create and maintain technical documentation and runbooks
• Collaborate with a global team of engineers in a fast-paced environment

Job Description

The Senior Linux Administrator II is responsible for the design, architecture, implementation, and day-to-day management of a global Linux infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on the Red Hat ecosystem, automation, and High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments. This role plays a key part in driving standardization, scalability, and operational excellence across enterprise data centers worldwide. As a senior technical contributor, this individual must be a self-starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision while providing technical leadership, mentoring, and clear communication to peers, internal customers, and leadership teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, architecture, and automation of a standardized global Linux infrastructure
• Experience with commercial hypervisors (VMWare, Proxmox, etc)
• Provide deep technical expertise across the Red Hat ecosystem, including Satellite Server, Identity Management (IdM), and related tools
• Manage and support a large, diverse global Linux environment, including system availability, capacity planning, performance tuning, and proactive monitoring
• Own the full lifecycle management of global engineering systems, from hardware acquisition through operating system deployment and decommissioning
• Automate infrastructure deployment and configuration using Ansible, Satellite Server (Foreman), and CFEngine
• Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools using Python, Perl, and shell scripting
• Drive an automation-first mindset, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability, and scalability
• Troubleshoot complex system issues and proactively remediate weaknesses before they impact production
• Manage and maintain monitoring systems to ensure uptime, reliability, and adherence to SLA requirements
• Participate in on-call rotations and provide escalation-level operational support
• Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and implementation guides
• Collaborate effectively with a global team of highly skilled engineers in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Requirements/Qualifications

• US Citizenship required
• 7.5+ years of hands‑on Linux/Unix system administration experience in enterprise environments
• Strong experience in designing, architecting, and administering Linux platforms with a heavy focus on RHEL / AlmaLinux
• 3+ years of experience with configuration management and Infrastructure as a code (Ansible preferred; Puppet or Chef acceptable)
• 3+ years of experience with centralized configuration and lifecycle management systems (Satellite, Foreman, Spacewalk)
• Containerization/Virtualization technology such as Proxmox, Docker, VMware, Kubernetes
• Proficiency in scripting and automation, including Python, Perl, and Bash
• Experience with incident management, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.Experience in handling postmortems, building incident response plans, and improving incident resolution procedures.
• Experience with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios, or similar.) and alerting systems.
• Understanding of software systems concepts such as networking, firewalls, protocols, databases and more
• Experience managing infrastructure in large-scale data center environments
• Compute cluster experience is a plus (LSF, Sun Grid Engine, RTDA)
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience
• Knowledge of source control tools (Git preferred).
