Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a Line Mechanic C to install, maintain and inspect overhead and underground electrical facilities. The role builds on C-D level skills and includes working with energized circuits under appropriate supervision as experience grows.

Responsibilities include wiring, testing, grounding URD cables, equipment assembly, and supervising assistants. Candidates should have a HS diploma or GED and 1 year of relevant experience or an electrical power line school

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 1 year distribution electrical power line work experience, OR one year of related line experience as defined by the job description, OR an Associate degree from an electrical power line school with internship/experience.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, maintain, remove and inspect overhead and underground facilities including conductors, cables, transformers and structures.
• Perform testing, de-energizing and grounding of URD cables and equipment under supervision as skill level dictates.
• Work on conductors and equipment energized up to 600 volts under appropriate supervision as you progress.
• Build and erect equipment mountings and overhead transformer installations.
• Tagging procedures while switching energized circuits; perform inspection and troubleshooting of lines.
• Direct the work of assistants and complete Monthly Apprentice Cards for supervisor review.
