Securian Financial Group in the United States is seeking a Life Underwriting Sr. Consultant to evaluate life insurance applications, assess risk, and settle classifications that align with profitability while ensuring fair outcomes for applicants.

You will review new business, changes, reinstatements, and inquiries with precision and timeliness, acting as a trusted partner to distribution and driving process improvements across the underwriting team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 7 years of life underwriting experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in substandard underwriting and large case underwriting.
• Proficiency in financial underwriting, including business cases.

Responsibilities

• Risk Assessment & Decisioning: evaluate applications within authority by analyzing medical, financial, and lifestyle risk factors to determine acceptability and classification.
• Exercise sound judgment to identify potential fraud and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines.
• Make timely and accurate decisions balancing risk, competitiveness, and customer experience.
• Collaborate with reinsurers for rated cases and large case reviews.
• Field & Partner Relationship Management: build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, advisors, and internal partners.
