Job summary

Mystic Aquarium is seeking a Senior Life Support Systems Technician to lead daily operations, monitor and maintain aquatic life support systems, and ensure the highest standard of care for the animal collection.

The role reports to the Manager of Life Support Systems and requires a Bachelor's degree (preferred) with 3 years of hands-on experience. Certifications (AALSO Level 1, SCUBA) are preferred or obtainable within 1 year. Ability to lift 75 lbs and work after hours is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• 3 years hands-on experience operating life support systems and/or other mechanical systems.
• AALSO Level 1 Life Support Certification or ability to become certified within 1 year.
• SCUBA certification or ability to pass a swim test required.
• Valid driver's license.
• Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in diverse environments.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and repair aquatic life support equipment including filters, pumps, UV sterilizers, ozone generators, and monitoring systems.
• Monitor and modify water treatment processes to ensure optimal animal care.
• Lead life support technicians and coordinate with cross-disciplinary teams.
• Develop and implement standard operating procedures with approval from the Manager of Life Support Systems.
• Ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and effective communication across departments.
• Be available for after-hours emergencies as needed.
