Job summary

Mississippi Aquarium is seeking a Life Support Systems Operator, Level 1–2, to manage daily LSS routines across habitats totaling nearly one million gallons. You will perform backwashes, system checks, and equipment inspections, troubleshooting issues and coordinating with the Water Quality lab.

The role requires maintaining LSS equipment, planning repairs and upgrades, and providing support to Animal Care and Veterinary Services.

Qualifications

Associate degree in an aquarium-focused program or a bachelor’s in biology, chemistry, marine biology or related field is required or equivalent experience.
Experience operating life support system equipment for recirculating systems in a public aquarium or zoological setting.

Responsibilities

Follow established objectives and procedures to ensure efficient LSS operations.
Operate LSS software to perform daily habitat maintenance tasks such as backwashes and water flow through reclamation systems.
Maintain high internal standards in accordance with AZA, AAMPA, and regulatory guidelines.
Assist Facility Operations and Animal Care with water quality lab duties and habitat support.
Troubleshoot LSS, habitat, and software issues across exhibits.
Assist with inventory, repairs, and preventive maintenance as needed.
Provide coverage for water quality duties and collaborate with the Water Quality lab.
