Job summary

Scholastic in New York, NY seeks a Senior Contracts Manager to draft, review, and negotiate license, publishing and contributor agreements in a fast-paced publishing environment.

You will work with editorial, licensing and product teams, manage high-volume contracts, and advise on risk while protecting business interests. This role requires NYC presence, with a two-day in-office expectation at the SoHo office.

Qualifications

• Significant experience negotiating brand license agreements with large IP holders.
• Experience with author, illustrator, and creative contributor agreements.
• Strong understanding of intellectual property and publishing rights structures.
• Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Independently draft, review, and negotiate a variety of agreements, including brand and intellectual property license agreements and publishing agreements with authors and illustrators.
• Negotiate contracts with major brand partners, licensors, agents, and rights holders.
• Communicate with business teams to resolve contract issues and provide practical, business-oriented guidance.
• Maintain contract templates, track status and obligations, and coordinate with legal counsel on high-value agreements.
• Mentor junior staff and ensure second-level review of agreements.
