Job summary

The Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) seeks a professional librarian to support access to information, technology, and instructional materials for blind and visually impaired students across Delaware. The role applies standard library practices, shares information, and helps develop services and policies for the K12 population it primarily serves.

This position may work with the Division for the Visually Impaired's prison braille program at James T.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science or related field.
• Six months experience organizing and coordinating library services and programs.
• Six months experience assisting users in navigating information sources and providing reference or information desk services.

Responsibilities

• Applies standard library practices, such as acquisitions, cataloging, processing, and circulating of digital and print resources.
• Researches, analyzes, and disseminates information to meet customer needs.
• May train/assist the public in using networked computers and other equipment.
• Supervise subordinates or volunteers in clerical library functions.
• Participates in professional development programs and courses of study.
• Keeps abreast of trends in information technologies to develop new programs.
• May provide library services to state agencies and the public.
• Develops and implements library policies and procedures.
• Ensures compliance with state and federal laws and operational needs.
• May serve as a professional library consultant or team leader.
